Recently retired June Arima Schumann is a longtime executive director of the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center and a founding member of the Oregon Nikkei Legacy Center (ONLC) and executive director of the organization for its first decade. June also is co-chair for the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon (APANO), a non-profit policy advocacy organization that addresses issues of interest to Oregon's Asian and Pacific Island people.

Jaime Lim, Publisher of the Asian Reporter newspaper, is an accomplished businessman, entrepreneur and long-time civic leader. Serving as President of the Philippine-American Chamber of Commerce of Oregon, he led a contingent of 25 Oregonians on a trade mission to the Philippines in 2007. As principal and owner of First United Engineering, Jaime has worked on a number of high-profile building projects all over Portland. Most recently, he was elected as President of the National Federation of Philippine-American Chambers of Commerce.

Peggy C. Ross is the Director for the Governor’s Affirmative Action Office. Employed in private sector organizations and as an entrepreneur since 1977, Peggy brings extensive experience promoting diversity and inclusiveness in the workplace. Her primary objective is cultural/climate assessment and training to include diversity, outreach services and business development for large corporations, non-profits and government entities. As the Governor’s Affirmative Action Director she built on 20-plus years as a consultant and expert resource by creating the first statewide, comprehensive Cultural Competency Assessment, Training and Implementation program for all executive state agencies, & building relationships for state agencies with Oregon’s nine Federally Recognized Tribes, ethnic communities and organizations, faith based organizations, Historic Black Colleges, women universities, and ethnic Greek Organizations.

Verne Naito is a vice president of Naito Corporation, parent company of the chain of Made In Oregon stores, and is manager of Naito Properties LLC, a property management and real estate development company. In his 30 year business career, Mr. Naito has been involved in a diverse number of fields from high tech to banking. Mr. Naito has been active with the Japanese American community his entire life. Mr. Naito with his father, Sam Naito, founded the Asian-American Business Club, the predecessor organization to AABA, in 2001. Among his other community and charitable activities, including: board member of the Harvard Business School Association of Oregon, judge for the Oregon Entrepreneur Network annual awards and treasurer of the Japanese Garden, Mr. Naito also sits on the Mayor's Council of Economic Advisors for the City of Portland. He is a frequent speaker at industry associations and lecturer at university business schools.

Sokhom Tauch is the Executive Director of the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO), an agency that assists refugees, immigrants, and multi-ethnic communities to develop self-sufficiency and cultural awareness while affirming and preserving each culture within an ever-changing environment. Before becoming executive director, he was IRCO’s fiscal manager for over 15 years. Under his leadership, IRCO has expanded its services in many areas including youth services, senior services, community development, folk arts, domestic violence services, citizenship, environmental justice, and volunteer programming. In 2001, Tauch worked with the IRCO staff and board to purchase its own building and community center for the Portland refugee and immigrant community.

His practice includes obtaining, licensing, and enforcing patent, trademark, copyright, and trade-secret rights for his clients. His practice also includes analyzing and opining on the patentability and right-to-manufacture of inventions, the validity and infringement of patents, and the usability and registrability of trademarks and service marks.

Sophorn Cheang

Sophorn Cheang holds the Board Secretary position of Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce of Oregon and SW Washington and is an aspiring, young, enthusiastic leader who is active not only in the Cambodian-American Community of Oregon, but also involves with other organizations such as Colored Pencils and Transitions Global. In addition, her personal and professional development is attributed to the many mentors, seasoned leaders and professionals that she is involved with. Being bless with the opportunities in the America, she feels that she could and should give something back to this world. Sophorn earned a B.S. in Finance from Portland State University. She is also a Vice President of Programs and Events of Cambodian-American Community of Oregon. She is fluent in the Cambodian written and spoken language, as well as English. Currently, Sophorn is a Real Estate Broker with Georgetown Realty, Inc.

Maileen Hamto
|
Maileen Hamto is a marketing communications professional with more than 10 years’ experience in web content management and media relations. She is the editor and producer of Colors of Influence, an online magazine that highlights the accomplishments of leaders of color. She works as Senior Communications Manager at the United Way of the Columbia-Willamette.
In addition to APACC, Maileen serves on the boards of the Oregon League of Minority Voters, the Asian Pacific American Network of Oregon and Colored Pencils Arts Collective.
Immigrating with her family, Maileen moved to Houston, Texas from her native Manila in 1992. She has been a Portland resident since 2003. She holds an MBA from the University of Portland and a Journalism degree from the University of Houston.

Ping Khaw-Sutherland

Ping Khaw-Sutheland is a professional visual artist, designer as well as a small business owner. In the past, Ms. Khaw-Sutherland has dedicated twenty some years in educating children of all ages and adult in arts. Her past experience includes working with non profit agencies in fundraising, art workshops, presentations, event organizing, graphic design and community outreach. Currently she works as a partnership specialist for the US Department of Commerce-Census Bureau.

Carolyn Hyun-Kyung Kim
|
After graduating cum laude from the University of Washington in 1997, Carolyn Hyun-Kyung Kim worked as a business analyst for CheilJedang Corporation in Seoul, Korea. Her key contributions included analyzing past and current Korean and global business environments and drafting strategic objectives for the company’s entertainment division.
Carolyn graduated from the University of Washington, School of Law, in 2001, where she served as a comments editor for the Pacific Rim Law & Policy Journal. Prior to joining the firm, Carolyn practiced immigration law as an Assistant Chief Counsel for Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Department of Homeland Security. She represented the Government in immigration court and before the Board of Immigration Appeals. She also provided legal advice to field operations and provided litigation advice and support to Assistant United States Attorneys and Office of Immigration Litigation in matters involving immigration law.

H.Q. La

H.Q. La owns a State Farm Insurance Agency in Portland, and has been with State Farm since 1993. He is a qualified professional whose job is to make things a little easier for his clients, by helping them to select the right auto, home, life, or business insurance plan to protect them and their families. In addition, H.Q. is a Registered Representative, specialized in retirement planning. H.Q. immigrated with his family to Oregon in 1979 from Hong Kong. He graduated from Willamette University with a Business and Economics degree. He speaks Cantonese and Vietnamese. In addition to APACC, H.Q. is a member of the Chinese American Citizen Alliance, the Oregon Association of Minority Entrepreneur, and the Portland Business Alliance. He volunteers with the Asian Health Service Center, the American Cancer Society, and the Make A Wish Foundation.

Tak Matsuda Is the Business Banker in West Linn at a major Bank. He also worked for Asian banks in San Francisco Bay Area for many years. During that time he volunteered for the Japan Society Northern California and Keizai Society (Japan business forum).

Uyen P Nguyen
|
Uyen P Nguyen is a financial advisor with Waddell & Reed in April 2008. She has been living in Vancouver, WA since 1995. Financial Service is a passion of hers and finds helping high net worth families in the areas of asset accumulation, conservation, and distribution. She is also a loan officer helping people obtains their residential home mortgages since 2002. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Portland State University (Class of 2003).
Uyen stays active in the community. Besides being a business owner and on the Board for the Asian Pacific American Chamber of Commerce, she sings in a choir at the Vietnamese Catholic Church, and is a member of the Vietnamese American Association of Clark County, Washington. She was born in Viet Nam and has lived with family in Vancouver, WA since 1995.

Andre Susanto is a mechanical engineer by training and an electrical engineer by profession. While his enjoys restoring classic cars, he's currently designing a human-electric hybrid commuter vehicle as a side project. His past experiences include being an Emergency Medical Technician, a forest fire fighter, and photographer. He is passionate about volunteering locally, especially in K-12 education.
